Toggle2023 Israel-Hamas war
After the 2022 Russia-Ukraine war, the 2023 Israel-Hamas war came up. The Israeli army announced on Sunday, October 29, 2023, that it will be increasing the number of its troops in the Gaza Strip. Along with restating its demands, it said that it would be speeding up humanitarian operations in the southern portion of the beleaguered territory, where Gaza’s civilian population is to migrate. The announcement coincided with the slow restoration of internet and mobile services following their suspension on Friday, October 27, 2023, due to heavy Israeli shelling. Netanyahu warned reporters that the fight would be “long and terrible” and that Palestinian people in the northern Gaza Strip should flee as Israel focused its offensive there.
According to health officials, Israeli forces murdered five Palestinians in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, raising the total number of people killed in that area since the start of the Gaza war to over 110. Around dawn, five Palestinians were shot and killed by Israeli forces; two of them were in the Askar refugee camp in Nablus, the Palestinian health ministry said. Ages 29 to 35 were the casualties.
The White House warned Israel that it must distinguish between Hamas combatants and civilians in the Palestinian area to protect innocent inhabitants of Gaza before President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke over the phone on Sunday.
It has been requested of the Israeli military to prevent civilian casualties in Gaza, where health officials in the Hamas-controlled territory report that over 8,000 people have already died in three weeks of Israeli airstrikes carried out in retaliation for Hamas’s exceptionally deadly attacks on October 7.
One of the members of the United Nations peacekeeping force UNIFIL was injured on Sunday, the force said, following firing on Saturday near the mission’s base in the town of Houla on the Lebanese-Israeli border. The Israeli army and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah organization in Lebanon have been engaged in daily shooting since the start of the Gaza conflict three weeks ago. UNIFIL’s headquarters, which is situated near the beach town of Naqoura in Lebanon, was also damaged by a shell that detonated within the building, the organization stated on Saturday.
